34-1/2 weeks

Just 5-1/2 weeks to go.

According to the books, the baby should be around 5 pounds. At the doctor's, she couldn't find his heartbeat for awhile and she said that she would have started to worry except that she could see him moving around in there. She then found the heartbeat (it was fainter due to the baby's positioning) and said it sounded great. Besides that, the appointment was standard issue.

We finished the painting of the room. And we sanded and painted the dresser that we'll be using as the changing station. I started putting things away in the dresser yesterday. We seem to have quite a few really cute outfits! We're still waiting for the crib to be delivered. There was a glitch in that the one we picked out was out of stock and we had to choose a different one. It should be delivered sometime next week. Then we can unpack all the bedding. We plan on putting the cradle together this weekend.

We had a tour of the maternity center last Wednesday as part of our childbirth class. It's really nice. It's more like a hotel than a hospital room - except that there's a hospital bed in the room. I've made a list of things I need to buy at Long's to pack my bag for the hospital and figure I'll do that in the next few weeks. I don't want to wait too long, but I think looking at a packed bag will make the days that I don't need it drag on!

I'm feeling pretty good overall - except for being tired all the time! But I guess that's to be expected since I'm carrying a bowling ball around all day everyday! It'll be nice to be able to bend in the middle again. Virtually all my shoes are slip-ons since I can't really get to my feet to tie laces. And I have to use my toes to turn on my work computer since it's on the floor and I can't really lean down to push the power button. Plus, it just takes me longer to move around. I know that getting exercise is important but I don't go far since just getting down the street takes like 3 times as long as normal!

Santa Cruz shower

My boss hosted a shower for me in Santa Cruz on the 26th. Once again, with the exception of the heat, I had a good time! (Who would have thought it'd be 85 degrees that day!?) Again, thanks everyone for the great stuff.

Bakersfield Shower

My sister-in-law hosted a baby shower for me in Bakersfield on the 19th. With the exception of it being hot, I had a really good time. (Not that it was hot in her house, but it sure was hot outside!) I was happy to see the turn out - there were more people there than I expected. We got a lot of great stuff! Thanks everyone.

Nearly 33 weeks

We started getting the room ready! The color we picked out is called Billowing Clouds - sounds nice, eh? It's a light blue. I'll take a picture when we're all finished. The room was painted a sort of sage green as you can kind of see in the photo and we had to put up two coats of primer to cover it. The blue hasn't yet made it to the walls. Maybe this evening...

So we're now almost 33 weeks along. Only 7 to go. The baby now weighs about 4 pounds and is around 19 inches from head to toe. I gained 3 pounds in the past two weeks and am quite pleased. Dr. Schreck said Monday that I was measuring perfectly. She also commented on how active he was. He kept kicking at her while she was feeling my belly! This baby is definitely related to his father - he isn't still for more than 5 minutes at a time! He's become more of a roller and squirmer recently instead of a puncher and kicker. As he gets bigger, he has less room to punch and kick.
Yes, I know this is a different shirt but the other was dirty!

Hiccups among other things

I'm pretty sure the baby has hiccups regularly. I know it doesn't bother him the way it bothers adults to have hiccups, but it's a rather strange sensation from my end. Sometimes it's just like feeling my heart racing in my chest only slower and not in my chest and other times the hiccups can actually be felt (and probably seen) from the outside.

We've now been to 3 childbirth prep classes. Last night we had to practice different positions for labor and contractions. We were supposed to include the different breathing techniques including making audible noise. It's hard to take it seriously with all these other couples around. Oh well, it's still good to get the information.

Today makes 32 weeks. Only 8 weeks to go.
